The Maine West Student Council is not as representative and as effective as it could be.
This has long been an acknowledged fact and the root of much criticism among the students. No person or group of people has ever come up with a constructive solution to the problem until now.
A new constitution involving a two house system may be the answer. Over the last two weeks the Student Council has been doing much work and research on such a system. Their ratification of the new constitution shows that they believe it would improve the student government.

The job of the student government is not only to coordinate student activities, but also to present student views to the administration. Under the new constitution this ideal can become a reality.
Any student with a justifiable proposition can ask for Student Council backing when he brings his cause to the administration.
The increased representation provided for by the new constitution would give to students a greater voice in the Student Council as well as more information about its activities.
The new constitution is not perfect; it may need to be molded and amended to accomplish all of its aims. It is, however, a step in the right direction toward a better Student Council.
