Student Council has been covering much new business since the school year began but could not work full force until Monday, September 23, when the new freshmen representatives took their seats.
The student seminars have been turned over to Council, and a special seminar committee is being formed to handle them.
Through a Council Evaluation Seminar and a Constitution Revisions Committee, Student Council hopes to improve the effectiveness of their organization.
The Public Relations Committee is looking into having a soccer team at Maine West. This committee is also responsible for ordering the calendars and Dial Tones which are now on sale in the bookstore.
Although the exchange student to Maine West cancelled out at the last minute, the A.F.S. Committee says there is hope that an English exchange student will be here for the second semester.
Service Committee is in charge of finding out if donuts, milk, hot chocolate, and coffee can be made available to students in the morning before school.

Student Council has been mainly occupied with the October 5 Homecoming preparations. Among some of the new ideas for this year's Homecoming that may be incorporated into the program are a bonfire and miniature football souvenirs.
Seven Council members attended summer leadership workshops and camps where they received many new ideas and techniques that will enable them to function more effectively in their positions this year. These members were Ray Kincaid '70, Vicki Coash '70, Jo Schaefer '69, Linda Wesolowski '69, Randy Hann '69, Jody Kinder '69, Cathy Newport '70, and Dave Atkinson '70.
Mr. Glenn Hoffmann, Social Science Department chairman, discussed the possibilities of having an Afro‑American history course. He implied that it is more likely the subject will be stressed more in the American history courses rather than becoming a separate course.
The complete Student Council meeting minutes have been posted in the library and in other places around the school. They will be changed regularly.
The suggestion box has been placed near the Path.
