"Okay, we'll break for lunch; be back at 1:30."
Suddenly the auditorium is deserted. It is very quiet and lonely for a while. But, promptly at 1:30 (well almost) the noise, the fun, the laughter, and the sounds of work begin to fill the once empty room, as little by little the cast of Pajama Game, this year's all‑school musical, returns.
The students have been rehearsing every night after school until nearly 7 p.m. On Saturdays they practice large production numbers like "Steam Heat," "7 1/2 Cents," and "Hernando's Hideaway," from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"I think it's a lot of hard work, but it will pay off on opening night," remarked Kathy La Spina '71.
This particular practice, Saturday, February 22, when the scene "7 1/2 Cents" was rehearsed, appeared to be a play in itself. The unique part about the rehearsal was that the lines were adlibbed. For the benefit of anyone who did not attend this "play," here is what happened.
Act One: The Auditorium, 1:30 p.m.
The cast enters in small groups, talking and laughing. Located in the middle of the center aisle is a podium. Carolyn Hummel '69 promptly discovers that the microphone is on. The podium enables one's voice to be heard all over the auditorium, and she entertains everyone with a song. Then Carolyn and Rhonda Sundquist '69 demonstrate their wrestling ability with a friendly match in front of the stage.

Enter Mr. Robert Kuite with a "Let's get started," and the cast members quickly do straight arm support mounts to the stage.
Act Two: Moments Later
The roll call is taken by student director, Connie Grimes '69. Everything is ready to start, after a short lecture, during which they learn that there are only a few weeks to go before opening night, from Mr. Kuite. Nothing like a good scare to make a rehearsal interesting.
Enter Mr. Garth Boyer to coach the speaking lines. Does everyone know his lines? Well, nobody is perfect.
Well, if nothing else, the cast learned the ‑proper and accepted way to march. A word to "Poopsie" on that: try not to wiggle so much when you march; save it for "Hernando's Hideaway."
Connie commented, "The harmony within the group is what makes it so much fun to rehearse."
It's 4 p.m. Time to go. Mr. Kuite ends the rehearsal with a cheerful, "No more sleeping; Monday we start to work."
