Basketball
The Maine West Warrior varsity basketball team closed out their conference season last Friday night. The Niles West Indians featured a well‑balanced attack while downing the bucketmen 71‑33 in the Maine East field house. T h e Warriors grabbed an early lead but could not contain the Indians in the second quarter, and at the half Maine had only 12 points.
The cagers fared better against Glenbrook South as they defeated the Titans 65‑59 in overtime. Dennis Willison '71 led the Warrior attack with 23 points. This victory came between two losses, one to Glenbrook North, 64‑54, and the other to Deerfield, 61‑52.
The netmen entered the Maine South Regional tournament with a 5‑14 record. The Prospect game was won 53‑41 on Tuesday. Their 3‑11 conference record placed them seventh in the final Central Suburban League standings.
Swimming
In the State‑District Qualifying Meet on February 22 Maine West was host to 14 schools, which included state swim power, Evanston, and finished with a strong third place.
With the strength of three seniors, eight juniors, five sophomores, and a freshman, the Warriors fell to only two teams, Evanston and Oak Park. Lance Kuntze '70 and Skip Parent '71 qualified for the State Swim Meet at Evanston and set new school records in the process.

On February 14 and 15 Maine West finished seventh in the Conference Swim Meet. The Warriors scored 5 1/2 points, these coming from Jim Lillquist's '69 fifth place in the backstroke and a third place from Lance Kuntze '70 in the breaststroke.
The sophomores took third in their conference meet. Their medley relay placed second; their free style relay placed fourth. Skip Parent and Paul Stenstrom '71 won individual events.
Track
The Warrior trackmen were given a well deserved rest when their meet with Wheeling on February 26 was postponed by that school's coaches.
The varsity Warrior track team gathered 13 2/3 points in the 12‑school Panther Invitational held at Proviso West on February 22 to gain seventh place.
The varsity thinclads dropped a heart-stopper to Niles North on Tuesday, February 18, in the last event by a score of 56 1/2 to 52 1/2. Maine was leading by one point going into the mile relay but had to win that event to take the meet. Before a screaming crowd, Niles edged the Warriors by three seconds to win the relay and the meet.
Several Warriors, all seniors, took first place in their events during the Niles meet. They were Gary Pruitt in the high and low hurdles, Dave Marrinson in the high jump, Gene Behrens in the long jump, Bob Glitz in the half‑mile, and Gary Wolf in the mile.
