Wrestler Morrison Chalks Up Near
Perfect Season Record

"I really don't like to talk about it; it makes me rather sad," commented Jim Morrison '69 when asked about Maine's final standing at the termination of the wrestling season. Jim, however, proved to be a valuable asset to the team throughout the course of the season and during football activities this fall.

Jim received his letter in football during his junior year. This year he played fullback on the varsity football team and provided resolute competition for wrestling opponents in the 154-pound class.

Jim's classes this year include physics, Spanish, creative writing, geometry, modern history, and typing. Despite this heavy schedule, he is able to be an active participant in sports and an example of school spirit.

"Kids are too interested in getting a job after school and on the weekends," commented Jim in account of the lack of extracurricular participation. "In order to get money to go out and have a good time, they sacrifice their school activities; this is not just limited to going out for sports either."

This fierce‑looking senior obtained his letter in wrestling during his sophomore year. He remained undefeated until the sectionals held at Leyden High School West, the weekend of February 21 and 22. There he placed third, despite two admirable pins.

Jim's four years of wrestling accomplishments include captain of the freshman team, all-conference senior, Lake Park Tournament champion, Forest View Quadrangular champion, and District champ.

He was the second person in the history of Maine West to hold an undefeated conference record. His overall record is 21 victories, two ties, and one loss.

Jim's physical attributes incorporate blue eyes, brown hair, and a height of 5'9". Typical of his uniqueness is his preference of baked potato to pizza or the common hamburger.

Western Illinois University has already accepted Jim as one of next year's college entrees; his drive will not stop here, however. At present he is trying to gain admission into the Air Force Academy.

"I really would be pleased if I am accepted into the Air Force," Jim divulged. "I feel it is one of the biggest honors I can receive."

One of the highlights of his academic career, this year, has been creative writing class. He is writing a novel and approaching its completion, as part of a long‑range project.

"The class is very informal and imaginative. It gives a student the opportunity to be creative, not merely descriptive," Jim asserted.
