The Soroptimist Club of Des Plaines has announced the winners of their annual Citizenship Awards. Two Maine West seniors were chosen to receive the awards. The winner is Randy Hann, president of Student Council. Runner‑up is Kathie Wolf, Editor‑in‑Chief of the Westerner.

Runner‑up Kathie Wolf received a check for $50. As winner Randy Hann received a cash prize of $100 and the chance to compete for regional and national awards of $1,000 and $1,500.

Along with their application forms they had to obtain three letters of recommendation and write a letter on "My responsibility as a citizen in the family, in the community, and in the world."

The applications were then judged on the basis of service, dependability, leadership, and the applicants' clear sense of purpose.
