Mr. Schafer Dies

Mr. Wilbur F. Schafer, choral director for Maine West since its opening, died the afternoon of Monday, March 24.

Mr. Robert Kuite, department chairman, stated, "Mr. Schafer was held in high esteem by his associates who had great respect for his unwavering adherence to a high standard of choral performance. His dedication to excellence greatly enriched the cultural opportunities enjoyed by the students at Maine West.''

Mr. Schafer worked on all of the musicals as well as with the Choraliers and other groups or productions that needed vocal assistance.

Mr. Schafer did not have a prolonged illness; he had even returned part time after a January operation.

This was to be Mr. Schafer's last year at Maine West, since he was planning to retire to Sun City, Arizona, this summer.

A memorial fund has been established through which students and faculty can pay tribute to his memory.
