Marilyn Assumes Position As
Council Secretary

"For the first week I had a lot to do. It will take time to get used to the duties of the office, but I'm sure everything will be fine once I do get adjusted," replied Marilyn Kalata, when asked how she liked her new office as secretary of Student Council. Marilyn was elected by the members of Student Council on March 11, when Linda Wesolowski resigned as secretary.

Marilyn has served on Student Council for two years. Her reaction to being elected was "I was really shocked. There are so many other qualified seniors who could have done the job."

When asked her opinion of Student Council as a whole, Marilyn replied, "Student Council is a necessary link between the student body and the administration. Of course, Student Council makes mistakes; any organization does."

The duties of a secretary, according to Marilyn, are mainly to take the minutes of all the meetings and to get out the homeroom reports. She also plans the banquet at the end of the year and assists the president whenever she can.

Marilyn's courses this year include creative writing, Art IV, psychology, and government. Her future plans include college at Western Illinois University.

Marilyn's comments about high school are "Everyone says a student has to be active. As long as a student enjoys his studies and activities, in school and out, and as long as a student is doing his best, he's a credit to the school."
