Varsity Cheerleaders Place in Competition

On Tuesday, March 11, Maine West varsity cheerleaders placed second in the sectional competition at Maine South High School, out of eight schools participating, losing only to Maine South.

The squads were judged by parents who attended the game. Skill, pep, leadership, a n d crowd response were the deciding factors.

This is the first time in a number of years that the cheerleaders have had such good standing. Eileen Goelz '69, captain of the varsity team, commented, "We tried very hard, and I'm really glad we've placed second. It was a lot of fun for all of us."

On March 14 at Maine South, the girls received an award, which was a plaque bearing the school's name.
