Cindermen Grab Seventh At Relays

Placing in three individual events and three relays, the Maine West track team scored 16 points to take seventh place on Friday, March 4, at the Evanston Relays, where 12 schools were represented.

In the varsity two‑mile relay, the Warrior team took a fifth place with a time of 8:26.1 The Freshmen four‑lap relay team took a fourth place, and the sophomore mile relay team a fifth place.

The rest of the points were scored by Gary Pruitt '69 and Delmar Hansen '70. Gary took a third in the high hurdles and a second in the lows. Delmar placed fourth in the high hurdles.

The previous Tuesday the trackmen dropped an away meet to Wheeling by a score of 66‑42. First were taken by Al Shank '69, two‑mile run; Mike Wolf '69, mile run; Gene Gehrens '69, long jump; Dave Marrinson '69, high jump; and Keith Royal '70, shot put.

The showdown with Palatine was a different story. Taking six first places the varsity trackmen won the meet 64‑45. Gene Behrens '69 placed first in the long jump and pole vault while the only other double winner, Gary Pruitt '69, picked up firsts in the high and low hurdles. Bob Glitz '69 took a first in the half mile while Keith Royal '70 won the shot put.

Maine West's freshmen and sophomore track squads also came up with victories. Taking first place in all 13 events, the sophomores walloped Palatine to the tune of 91‑18.

Meanwhile, the freshmen speedsters came up with five firsts and followed through strongly enough to outrun their opponents 57 1/2‑50 1/2.
