Students Approve Plan B

The students of Maine West during the week of April 7‑11 voted to accept Plan B of the new Student Council constitution.

Plan B is the method by which students are elected to the tower house directly by and from each individual homeroom. There will be approximately 115 members elected to lower house by this method.

Present Student Council representatives will go to each homeroom and explain the positions of the future representatives. To be elected, the representative must have a 2.0 grade average and be a member in good standing in his class.

According to the new constitution, there will be approximately 30 members in the upper house. The upper house will include one elected member for every 10 members of the lower house; two members from each class at large, the Executive Board, and other specified members.

The president of Student Council will preside over the lower house. The vice‑president will be the convener of upper house and the Presidents Council.

According to Mr. Rollin Porter, sponsor of Student Council, "The strongest point in favor of the new constitution is that it will, for the first time, reduce the popularity contest to a minimum. The homeroom will decide for itself who can and will best represent it. I'm very much in favor of it, and I congratulate the entire student body on its efforts."
