On April 8 the two mayoral candidates in the Des Plaines election spoke to Mr. Gaston Freeman's second period and Mr. Glenn Hoffman's third period government classes. Mayor Herbert Behrel and Mr. Spencer Chase spoke on the issues of the 1969 mayoral race.
Both of their talks were centered around the various aspects of a political campaign. Mr. Chase explained how the candidate chooses the issues he wishes to run on and then makes these known to the voters.
Mayor Behrel introduced the legal aspects involved in a campaign and gave background in formation about each point mentioned. A question and answer period was also held.
The annual Brotherhood Society Banquet was held on April 17 at the Scanda House in Mt. Prospect. All members were invited to attend this dinner, at which the 1969‑70 officers were announced. Dave Nelson '71 is the new president; Jan Olenicki '70 was elected vice‑president; and Debbie Wojak '71 is the secretary‑treasurer.
The Music Department presented its annual Spring Concert last Sunday, April 20. The program was held in the auditorium, with the Intermediate Orchestra, Bell Choir, Male Chorus, Lab Band, Combined Girls' Choruses, and Combined Intermediate and Cadet Bands all performing.
The junior high school music students were invited to be the guests of the Music Department at this event. All of the groups that performed are groups in which freshmen are eligible to participate when they enter Maine West. Following the concert, a reception was given in the cafeteria for these guests.

The Sleep‑In, sponsored by the Social Committee of Student Council, was cancelled. It was to be held in one of the gyms on April 18.
Lack of participation among the girls was cited as the reason the Sleep‑In was cancelled. Those girls who had signed up will receive their refund in the mail.
Girls' Club members, Cathy Bruhn '71, Jan Ensign '71, and Annette Jason '72, attended the 1969 Suburban Girls' Club Conference on April 19. The conference was held at H. L. Richards High School in Oak Lawn.
The three delegates attend the conference with three delegates from Maine South and three from Maine East. The highlight of the program was the talk given by Mrs. Irene Hughes, the well‑known psychic‑mystic who predicted the great blizzard of 1967 in Chicago.
Cheerleading clinics for the 1969‑70 varsity squad began last Friday. The clinics were held April 18, 21, and 25 in C‑wing gym. The girls learned three cheers used by the varsity squad during the year.
Tryouts will begin next Monday. April 28 is semi‑finals, and the girls chosen for finals will come back on April 29. At the finals, the actual squad of between six and eight girls will be chosen.
Miss Janice Richter, co‑sponsor for the cheerleaders, commented, "We will be judging the girls on their ability to lead cheers and get a crowd cheering, as well as their stunts, jumps, and cheers.
This year's Junior Prom, "Too Soon a Memory," will be held on May 17 from 8:30 till 11:30 p.m. The dance will be held in the auditorium with Iver Buerk and his orchestra supplying the music.
Committee chairmen for the Prom include: Chris Clausen, decorations; Pam Potter, refreshments; Laura Dalbke, bids and invitations; and Hilary Pakard, publicity. Debbie Lusk is the Prom chairman.
