Dave Winn is a multi‑talented man. He is one of only two seniors in starting positions on this year's baseball team. Dave is also a returning letterman, and he does an excellent job at whatever position he plays.
This athletic senior is on the smallish size, only 5 feet 6 inches tall; but he feels no disadvantage because of his size. On the other hand, he feels no distinct advantage because of it.
Dave is quick to defend this year's varsity baseball team. He stressed, "Although we are inexperienced, we have the talent to win. If we can get a few breaks here and there, we will win more games than many people expect."
Perhaps Dave's greatest asset to the team is his unselfishness. Dave can play every position, and he will move to another position if another ballplayer specializes in Dave's position. This year Dave is starting most games in the outfield, while last year he spent a good deal of time at second base.

When asked for his advice to young athletes, Dave stated, "Every boy is given a chance if he shows the desire to play. When you do play, always do your best because there is always someone trying to take over your place on the team."
Dave's busy day would not be complete without his classes. This year his agenda includes English, geology, government, democracy, and radio‑TV.
Next year Dave will attend Northern Illinois University. Although he is unsure of his major at this time, Dave is certain that he will play baseball at Northern.
Dave had high praise for Maine West's coaches, and he commented, "There is not enough interest from boys with high potential. Also I feel that there is too much emphasis on education and not enough on sports."
In regard to the future, Dave offers hope in respect to baseball. He declared, "Next year's team will be one of the finest in Maine's history." If Dave Winn said it, it has a good chance to come true.
