Warrior Racketmen Defeat Willowbrook, Aurora West

The Maine West tennis team had no difficulty in defeating Willowbrook High School last week as the Warriors romped, 4‑1.

In the number one singles, Warrior Dave Keehn '70 easily triumphed over Bob LuFrano by scores of 6‑2, 6‑4. Jack Williams '70 followed with another victory, this time over Tom Lee, 6‑0, 3‑6, 6‑3, in the second singles.

Finishing up the singles event for the Warriors was Drake Mertes '69 who knocked down Willowbrook's Jim Gilford, 6‑4, 6‑2.

Ron Finstad '70 and Tom Tyler '69 kept the winning streak alive by downing Willowbrook's number one doubles team, 11‑9, 6‑3.

The only loss of the afternoon for the Warriors came during second doubles where Willow. brook's Dave Watschke and Steve Leturno upset Warrior's Tim Wayman and Bill Ritchie.

Last week the Warriors also managed to upset a fine Aurora West team. In first singles Tim Wayman was defeated by Aurora's Roger Converse, 6‑0, 6‑1.

Bill Curry had a much tougher time with Dave Keehn in second singles, defeating him by scores of 6‑3, 8‑10, 6‑3. Jack Williams started Maine winning with a decisive 8‑6, 6‑0 win over Karl Stein of Aurora in third singles.

The Warriors tied the meet score when their doubles combination of Tom Tyler and Drake Mertes defeated Dave Power and Jan Harris, 6‑4, 6‑0.

In second doubles, Bill Ritchie and Ron Finstad paired up for a 6‑0, 2‑6, 6‑3 win over Dave Hagan and Hub Bartlett of Aurora to give the Warriors the win.
