Clothing Classes Present
Happiness Interpretations

"Happiness Is a New Dress" was presented May 15 in the Maine West auditorium. The show, presented by the Home Economics Department, lasted from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The theme of the show was taken from the Peanuts comic strip. Various Peanuts characters decorated the stage. A copy of Lucy's psychoanalysis booth served as a place for the announcers to describe the girls' fashions. Clothing III students created the stage decorations.

Dresses, coats, and pantsuits were some of the fashions the girls displayed. Clothing I girls modeled dresses, and Clothing II students modeled woolen dresses, suits, pantsuits, formals, coats, and made one small child's outfit. Clothing III students designed all of their clothes.

There was a short intermission and refreshments were served. The Home Economics foods classes provided the cookies and punch.

The Betty Crocker Award, "Search for the American Homemaker of Tomorrow," was presented to Carla Battaglia '69. This special award is given to a senior girl after she takes a test and displays outstanding achievement.

In addition, the cherry pie winner, Nancy Harms '71, received her award simply on the basis of a good‑tasting cherry pie.

The new Home Economics Club officers were announced, and Home Economics Department teachers were recognized. A special bouquet of roses was given to Mrs. Katherine Hofmann for her extra help and work with the show.

"We are proud of the girls. Those who modeled and those who worked backstage, we would like to thank," said Mrs. Lucille Stiles, department chairman.
