Creative Writing Class Offers
New Experiences

By JAN THAIN

The experimental creative writing class has surprised many people at Maine West with the scope and quality of its productivity.

At a little theater presentation for the parents at the May 16 Open House and at another last Friday, the class demonstrated more than literary talent. The methods of presenting works included singing, background music, and slides as well as a great quantity of dramatic reading.

In the bound volume that each student prepared for the class many of the writer's works were augmented by photographs and art work. These examples of multi-faceted creativity were on display in the showcase opposite the library research center.

The students of the class along with their instructor, Mr. Peter Potomianos, are now occupied with video‑taping one of their readings. This tape will not only aid the writers in improving their works and delivery of works, but will also be available for use in other English classes.

During their fifth period class as of late, each student has had a day to express his philosophy and read a sample of his work. These sessions aid the creative writing people to better understand each other's works by understanding each other better.

The two creative writing classes scheduled for next year will have Mr. Donald May as an instructor since Mr. Potomianos has received a fellowship at the University of Illinois in Champaign‑Urbana.
