The Warrior baseball team met the Maine East Blue Demons to begin this year's district tournament. Unfortunately, that is where it ended, as Maine West was eliminated when they dropped the game by a score of 7‑2.
The only runs for West came i in on a double by Jim Hanselman '71 and a sacrifice fly by Joe Jung '70. Maine East scored six of their runs on a bases-clearing double, a hit batsman, and two walks.
On May 5 Maine West crushed Deerfield 6‑1 behind the pitching of senior Mike Kautz. In the third inning Kautz allowed his first run of the year on two hits and two walks.
The Warriors scored a run in each of the first two innings, but they broke through with three more in the fourth. After two Warriors walked, Hanselman singled. He then stole second and came home on two throwing errors.

Bert Gastorf '70 hit a home run, and Niles North committed 15 errors to lead West to a whopping 13‑3 victory over the Vikings. The Maine West batters knocked off five pitchers from the mound before it was all over.
The sophomores are showing great promise as they are in first place in the conference standings. On May 9 they lost their only game thus far, which was to Niles North by a 5‑2 score.
Dan Moss '71 doubled in the winning run from second base to spark the Warriors over Niles West 3‑2.
Bill Besenhofer '71 won his own ball game as he pitched a shutout and drove in the winning run in the Warrior 1‑0 victory over Deerfield.
