The graduating seniors gathered this morning in the auditorium for the annual Honors Assembly. At this time Academic Awards, Good Will Awards, Departmental Awards, Mothers'
Club Scholarship Awards, Athlete of the Year, D.A.R. and S.A.R. Awards, and the G.A.A. Scholarship Awards were presented.
The valedictorian is Stephen Baenziger. The salutatorian is Scott Ferraiolo.
Thirty‑six students were honored by the Mothers' Club for being in the top five percent of their graduating class. These students were Bill Adair, Jill Anderson, Stephen Baenziger, Jim Birchfield, Barb Bednarz, Greg Caravelli, John Doyle, Donna Ellwanger, Linda Felke, and Darlene Frank.
Others were Dorothy French, Darlene Fricano, Scott Ferraiolo, Eileen Goelz, Randy Hann, Judy Henk, Nancy Johnsen, Kurt Krebs, and Donald Kruse. Monica Keane, Sandy Lauffenburger, Nancy Lilja, Robert Lumpp, Janet Moranz, Beth Miller, Drake Mertes, Sandy McNabb, Jeanette Platt, Greg Reinhart, Carol Rohde and Jim Sorensen were also honored.
Also Marta Spera, Janice Thain, Alan Utes, Kathryn Wolf, and Mark Young were honored.
During the senior assembly, 18 Departmental Awards were presented beginning with the Art Department Award granted to Tom Wilson. Karen Bendyk and Diane Idziak were chosen for the Business Education Award.
The girls who were chosen to honor the English Department were Diane Glanke and Katherine Kinny. Chris Lund accepted the Home Economics Award, and the Industrial Education Award went to Robert Kempke and Dean Spindler.

The two students chosen from the Language Department were Carol Rohde and Richard Trojanowski. Awarding one student for mathematics achievement the Mathematics Department presented Sandy Lauffenburger with their Award.
The Music Department Award went to Rhonda Sundquist. The Boys' Physical Education Department honored William Regan, and Marilyn Coombs was chosen by the Girls' Department.
Craig Dudczak was chosen from the Speech Arts Department for debate. Also from this department, Alice Mott was chosen because of excellence in drama.
To complete the awards, the Science Department presented Linda Felke with their honor. Frank Alan Utes was awarded the Social Science honor.
Good Will Awards were presented to the students who were elected by their classmates and nominated by the faculty on the basis of good citizenship. The seven girls chosen were Barb Bednarz, Laura Frey, Darlene Fricano, Mary Gianpetro, Carolyn Hummel, Marilyn Kalata, and Jenny Schmeissing.
The boys receiving this award were Stephen Baenziger, Tom Barrett, Rich Buchanan, Kim Freeman, Randy Hann, Steve Waecker, and Jim Webster.
Another honor was the Athlete of the Year presented to Jim Morrison. The G.A.A. Scholarship Award went to two members. These girls were Marilyn Coombs and Robin Van Osdol.
Scholarships were also awarded by the Mothers' Club to Theresa Gassner, Sue Dixon, Jeanette Platt, and Randy Hann. A special recognition was given by Mr. Herman Rider, principal, to the 1969 Maine West National Merit Scholar, Ann Blonston.
