Winner of this year's 1969 Teaching Scholarship, awarded by the Soroptimist Club of Des Plaines, is Sandra Lauffenburger, a senior at Maine West.
Sandra was notified two weeks ago that she had been granted the $500 scholarship. "I really didn't expect it at all. I feel very honored to have been chosen," said Sandy.
On May 27, at a dinner meeting at Seven Eagles, a formal presentation of the $500 scholarship check was made. Also attending the banquet was Deborah Perry '69, who received a special scholarship award and Randy Hann '69, who received the club's Citizenship Award, and Kathie Wolf '69, runner‑up.
The recipient of the Teaching Scholarship was determined by scholastic ability, participation in activities, and a written questionnaire about their reasons for wanting to become a teacher.

Sandy plans to major in mathematics at the University of Illinois, Urbana, and eventually to teach in this field. "Mathematics does not come easily for me, but I enjoy it. It presents a real challenge," she states.
Any high school senior with a Des Plaines mailing address was eligible to apply for the Teaching Scholarship presented by the Soroptimist Club of Des Plaines.
