SPORTS SLANTS

By TERRY TYRPIN

Another long year of sports activities at Maine West has come to a close leaving behind many moments of excitement, suspense, and frustration for athletes and spectators alike, surprises, and dreary disappointments.

The coaches must be credited, as always, with doing "the best they could with what they had." Each coach will be missing the services of some outstanding seniors, but don't despair. The underclassmen are coming up with some impressive players to fill the vacancies.

Football will miss its Dave Zulawskis and Kevin Wellers. The track teams will miss a Bob Glitz and a Wolf duo. Basketball will miss its George Horns, Randy Bruescher.s, and Kim Freemans.

Gymnasts will miss its Rich Didier and Jim Janssens. What will the swimming team be like without a Terry Stoner or Ted Loska?

Will the wrestling squad be the same without a Jim Morrison or Steve Waecker? The tennis team will be minus one Tom Tyler and Bill Ritchie, while baseball have to get along without the services of John Salerno and Dave Winn.

An era in Maine West sports history ended this year, although a new one will begin in the 1969-70 season. The basketball season will mean the transfer of all West's home games previously played at Maine East to its new gymnasium. Spectators will be able to attend a greater variety and number of sports events in the athletic center.
