Senior Jim Morrison may be one of the toughest competitors in a wrestling uniform Maine West has ever had. His undefeated conference record along with a total of 21 seasonal victories and only one defeat certainly speak for themselves as an indication of his achievements this year.
Lettering in both football and wrestling, he prefers the latter of the two because "it features the individual." Even with all the accomplishments Jim chalked up as an athlete, it didn't take long for him to decide "taking first place in districts" would be his most cherished honor.
This grappling star holds the Maine West coaches in high regard, especially his two wrestling coaches, Mr. Bruce Barringer and Mr. Richard Carlini. Jim has every hope of continuing his careers in wrestling and football in a future that will also include his attendance at Georgia Tech University in Atlanta.
Answering like the typical athlete, he looks upon himself as being "the average guy." Besides owning a keen interest of sports in general, Jim also finds plenty of time for that one major outside interest too, his girlfriend.

"They really make running fun." This is what senior cross-country runner Bob Glitz has to say about the Maine West cross-country coaches. Bob also attributes Maine's past record in cross country. He also received his varsity letter his sophomore year.
Bob's most memorable meets were both this year. One was when he placed third in a field of 161 in the Center Meet. The other was taking first in the Conference Meet out of 56 other runners. To stay in shape for this, Bob runs eight to nine mile a night.
Starting next year Bob will be attending the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs. At the end of four years Bob plans to make a career of the Air Force, first possibly, as a pilot. After this he would like to get involved in international affairs as an air attaché.

Being the captain of his freshman and sophomore football squads is the first in a long line of accomplishments and honors for senior gridman Dave Zulawski. In his junior year Dave played guard on the varsity football team. As a senior Dave has played guard and middle linebacker.
During his senior year Dave was voted the most valuable player. Along with this honor Dave was chosen to play middle linebacker on the all‑conference squad.
He was also picked to play on the Chicago Tribune All‑star team. Dave said that part of the problem with this year's team was that they just weren't getting the lucky breaks.
In Dave's future is four years of studying at Knox College at Galesburg, Illinois. Dave would like to major in geology and then work as a geologist.

Another dedicated Warrior athlete of gymnastics fame is Jim Janssens. A member of the team all four of his years here, Jim earned his letter in that sport as a junior. Since then, he has been one of the key men on the squad. "Bam‑Bam" Janssens, as he was once nicknamed, earned success on the trampoline and high bar apparatus.
Jim, who has always found gymnastics "challenging," also admits he likes "the daring part of it." His biggest thrill in sports so far came when he "tied for first place at East Leyden in the district competition this year."
The gymnast feels Maine West's best attribute was "the wide variety of courses offered," although in his opinion the teachers could stand a little improvement. Next year will find him at Oklahoma State University in Norman, Oklahoma, where he will pursue a career in both gymnastics and industrial technology.
"Really considerate" is the way Jim summed up Mr. Sidney Drain, his coach here at Maine. This summer the "quiet" Jim Janssens hopes to indulge his most favorite activities outside of sports ‑ "just having a good time and going to the beach."
