November Variety Show Features
26 Acts

Since this year's Variety Show, Stage West '68‑'69, will be held in November, students have been busy working since the first week of school. Tryouts were held from September 19 through October 1. Students were notified on October 3 whether or not their act was chosen.

There will be 26 acts with members of all four classes included. An even number of singing acts and skits were chosen. Hans WahI '69, V‑Show coordinator, commented, "This year we have tried to include a wide variety of acts, both musically and otherwise."

Lise Pahnke '69, V‑Show's student director, stated, "The students involved are really excited, and I'm sure they'll work their hardest to make this year's V‑Show the best ever. There are really some different ideas planned, and 1 hope the show will really be a success."

Some highlights of the show will be a scene from The Music Man, complete with its own chorus; a Munckins act; a skit performed by a group of teachers; two dance chorus numbers; the V‑Show staff's original skit; a mod musical fashion show, in which the members act as "animated mannequins"; voice solos done by Donna DeFranco 69 and Dave Huizenga '71; and two numbers by the Maine West Choraliers.

There will not be scenery for every act because only two main scene changes between acts are scheduled. Act One will be a showboat, and Act Two will be a nightclub atmosphere with the Show Band on stage. All the acts will be worked around these, scenery plans.

The staff is hoping for a two hour performance each night, but it probably will run longer, according to Lise Pahnke. However, V‑Show will begin at 8 p.m. on November 14, 15, and 16.

"This year the dance chorus is smaller, and we'll attempt to have more quality dancing and bigger production numbers," remarked Janie Leis '69, V‑Show choreographer. There are 10 girls in the dance chorus, and they will be doing two numbers besides the introductory numbers. Janie Leis will be doing a solo in the show.

Mr. Garth Boyer is the show's sponsor. Carol Beam '69 is the costume director, and Bruce Nelson '69 is the music direc tor. There are other various crews working on this year's V‑Show.
