The Maine West cross country team hosted the Knights of Prospect last Saturday, October 5. Although Bob Glitz '69 kept alive a string of 29 first place finishes by a Maine West runner, the Warriors lost 30‑25. Glitz's winning time was 14:11. The next three men in were from Prospect as Dumke, Treece, and Matthews recorded times of 14:19, 14:22, and 14:33 respectively.
Fifth and sixth places were taken by the unrelated Wolf boys Mike '69 and Gary '69 with times of 14:33 and 14:35. Bach of Prospect took seventh at 14:39. Warrior Steve Johnson '70 was eighth in 14:41, seven seconds ahead of Prospect's Pomrenke at 14:48.
The sophomore Warriors ran away with the meet with a score of 25‑35. The first two finishers were from Prospect as Dittman and Hankel came in with times of 11:00 and 11:07 respectively. One second behind Hankel in third place was the first Warrior finisher Dave Gilbertson '71 at 11:08
Fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth places were also taken by the Warriors, as Kevin Wright '72, Ken Kovar '71, Don Anderson '72, John St. John '72, and Tim Watkins '71 came in with closely knotted times of 11:13, 11:15, 11:15, 11:15, 11:16 respectively.
On Thursday, October 3, the Warriors hosted the harriers from Deerfield. With a 15 to 49 romping of Deerfield, Maine moved its league leading record to 4 and 0.

Bob Glitz '69 led all finishers with a time of 14:36. Second to Glitz was Steve Johnson '70 who was 17 seconds off the pace at 14:53. Gary Wolf '69 was next for the Warriors with a 14:57.
Deerfield's Rick Mittleman spoiled a perfect score for Maine West as he finished a split second behind Gyssler recording an identical time. Maine's Mike Wolf '69, ran eighth with a clocking of 15:10.
On the frosh‑soph level Maine West was victorious also. Four Maine men finished within three seconds of each other, and seconds later Deerfield grabbed a place. Dave Gilbertson led the way for the Warriors at 11:25. Don Andersen '72 was second at 11:26. Running third and fourth were John St. John '72, and Tim Watkins '71 at 11:26.
On Tuesday, October 1, the Warriors traveled to Glenbrook South where they defeated the Titans.
Glitz's 14:47 set a record for the new course. Steve John son '70 was second in the leading pack of six Warriors with a 14:59.
Marc Forkins was third at 15:10 and was followed by Al Schank at 15:21. Fifth and sixth places were claimed by the Wolf boys, Gary and Mike, who ran 15:22 and 15:28 respectively.
