Tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. Maine West's football team will face the Glenbrook South Titans in hopes of their first win of the season.
The Warrior gridmen almost came up with that first win last Saturday as they came back from a 14‑point deficit in the second half of the 1968 Homecoming game with the Deerfield Warriors, but would up on the short end of a 14‑13 score.
The Maine Warriors put 13 quick points on the board in the third quarter, but Deerfield held the charge and kept the Warriors scoreless during the final period.
On the opening kickoff the Warriors took advantage of a Deerfield fumble and recovered the ball deep in enemy territory but were unable to score.
After a couple of drives stalled, Deerfield began to move the ball successfully by the passing of Marc Nelson and the running of John Frost. After three sets of downs Deerfield was knocking at the Warrior doorstep at the two‑yard line, where Frost took it in for the score.
Late in the second quarter after Nelson passed for a long gainer, Frost ran with the ball on the first series of plays and eventually scored on a one‑yard plunge.

The third quarter was all Maine West as the Warriors scored twice on two long runs from scrimmage which put them right back into the game.
Tailback Bill O'Neill '70 received the ball from quarterback Tom Mietus '69 on a draw play, and after slipping, a tackler scampered around right end and went 62 yards for the touchdown.
After the Warriors held Deerfield to four downs, fullback Joe Jung '70 got the call on an off‑tackle play. Finding his way through the red shirts, he went 28 yards into the end zone.
On September 27 the Warriors lost another close game, this one to Maine South, 14‑7. The Warriors contained halfback Dave Larson and tackle Dave But, as well or better than any other team previously, but it wasn't enough for the victory. The Warrior score consisted of a Jim Kulik '70 pass to Rich Yetter '69 in the end zone.
The junior varsity was handed their third loss when they were defeated by Maine South 28‑7. The only Warrior scoring was on a Mark Henkes '70 kickoff return of 80 yards.
