Students Form Aviation Club

The newly formed Aviation Club recently hosted Dr. Richard Short, superintendent of Maine Township High Schools; Mr. Paul Faltysek, of Tuffs-Edgecomb Airport and the Suburban Press of Chicago; Mr. Charles Priester, manager of Palwaukee Airport; and Mr. Steve Green, of Sky Harbor.

These men spoke to the members of the club on the advantages of flying, both commercial and private, and the excellent opportunities an Aviation Club offers. The club members will receive the usually expensive ground school training free and may, therefore, work toward their F.A.A. exam.

"Aviation is second only to the auto industry in hiring people," remarked Mr. Faltysek. One of the goals of the Aviation Club is to acquaint students

with all the career opportunities open in the field. To this end members will receive literature from the major airline companies and also have many qualified guest speakers.

Aviation clubs such as the one at Maine West are being established throughout the country. The idea of such a club was conceived by managers of airports and has been successfully promoted by suburban press leagues. Mr. John Amason is the sponsor of the club. Mr. Randall Rayborn is the co‑sponsor. Counselor Dr. Paul McKinnis helped in getting the club started.

The Aviation Club, which is currently engaged in creating a constitution, is still open to all interested students. Flight training at the local airports may be available through the club, and someday aviation may become an accredited course.
