The Maine West gridmen will be searching for their first win of the year as they play host to the Vikings of Niles North tonight at 8 p.m.
The Warriors encountered another tough team last Friday night when they bowed to the Glenbrook North Spartans 21‑6. Maine West's only scoring was a 10‑yard run around right end by tailback Bill O'Neill '70 which put the Warriors right back into the game during the first quarter.
As soon as the Spartans got the ball, they penetrated the Warrior defense and scored within the first few minutes of play. With the passing of Biagmi and the running of Crabtree and Grisham, Glenbrook North drove to the Maine 14‑yard line where Grisham took it in for the score.
The next Warrior drive proved successful as Tom Mietus '69 passed to Kevin Weller '69. Halfbacks Joe Jung '70, Tom Buttner '69, and Jim Morrison '69 and Bill O'Neill ran through the Spartan line to put the ball on the Glenbrook 10‑yard line. From here O'Neill followed his blockers into the end zone to give Maine their only score.
The Spartans took an 8‑point halftime lead with the help of a few penalties and the running of Grisham who eventually carried the ball in for the score from the 3‑yard line.

During the third quarter the Warriors were looking for a sustained drive with which they could score, but both defenses had toughened up. Neither team could put a point on the board.
It appeared as though Maine had a drive going when they found themselves in Spartan territory early in the last quarter, but it was suddenly stopped when Mietus threw the ball over O'Neill's head and into the hands of a Glenbrook defender.
The Spartans took advantage of the interception and drove to the Maine 39‑yard line where Biagini completed a pass to Grisham who ran most of the way into the end zone. This ended the scoring and made the final score 21‑6.
On October 12 the Warriors had to settle for a 7‑7 tie when Sims of Glenbrook South caught a pass behind Maine defenders and romped 60 yards for the score with two minutes left in the game. Bill O'Neill scored on a 4‑yard run for the lone Maine West tally.
The sophomores beat Glenbrook South 6‑0 on a 60‑yard run after a fumble recovery by Bill Thielen '71 but lost to Glenbrook North by a 7‑6 score.
Coach David Kennedy's freshmen also got on the winning track and beat Glenbrook South 180 but lost to Glenbrook North 28‑0.
