American Education Week will be observed this year during the week of November 10 through 16. The theme of the week is "America has a good thing going ‑ its schools. Support them."
An Open House will be held on Tuesday, November 12, and also on Tuesday, November 20, so that teachers and parents may meet.
Traditionally, the President of the United States has proclaimed American Education Week every year. This year Mayor Herbert Behrel of Des Plaines has also been asked to proclaim this week.
On Tuesday, November 20, Maine West Student Council will sponsor its annual Teacher Appreciation Day. This day is set aside each year so that students may honor and take time to realize the vital functions that teachers have, as well as others who help run the school.
They will all receive apples and carnations from the Student Council on this day. In addition, the teachers' lounge will be decorated and refreshments will be provided. Posters placed around the school will encourage students to observe the Teacher Appreciation Day and to appreciate and honor their teachers.
