GOP Wins Maine W. Election

Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew won the Presidential race at Maine West by a narrow margin. Because the suburbs tend to be Republican, it was no surprise that the Republican Party won the mock election held here last Monday.

Percentage wise, Nixon received most of his votes from the sophomores, while the freshmen supported Humphrey. Wallace and McCarthy received more votes from the seniors than any other class. Out of 2,060 votes cast, 25 were for Pat Paulsen and five for Henning Blomen of the Socialist Labor Party.

Richard Ogilvie won the governorship in both the state and mock elections. Both the seniors and juniors split their vote almost evenly between Ogilvie and Shapiro, while the Classes of '71 and '72 definitely favored the Republican ticket.

Senator Dirksen had approximately 825 more votes than Clark to win the mock election.
