Dear Editor:
I am writing in reply to the criticism of Student Council printed in the Westerner on October 25.
I am a member of Student Council and have participated in many Council meetings. Maybe checking on the security guard's efficiency seems ludicrous to some of you, but some students thought it important enough to bring it to the attention of their friends and Student Council representatives.
As far as the Coke machine is concerned, students have communicated through their representatives to the Council asking if their requests would be considered. If you prefer orange juice and Coke "off the rocks," you would appreciate Council's discussion and concern.
Most Student Council members are not personally offended when Council is criticized. They know that Council is an organization which tries to represent the student body. There is value in criticism when suggestions of how to improve come too. Council wants to know what the students want of their Student Council and how to satisfy everyone.
You may not care about the Maryville complimentary tickets unless you live there. If you don't drink Coke, you won't be concerned about the ice button; but Student Council can not discuss something for everyone in 42 minutes.

Dear Editor:
The letter in the last issue of the Westerner showed dissatisfaction with the ideas brought up in the Student Council meetings. A common complaint of the students is that Student Council does not represent the true views of the students. The writer fails to realize that these suggestions were obtained by the representatives directly from the students in the homerooms.
The writer is correct in saying Student Council is not a government. Who is Student Council to judge the value of the ideas recommended by the student body? We are not here to stifle their suggestions. If we were to decide what was and was not significant, who would we be representing?
If you have an idea that you feel is important, it is your responsibility to inform your Student Council representative. Only through this method can we be aware of your desires. Student Council will continue to reflect all ideas brought to its attention.
