On Thursday, October 17, 19 girls were chosen as members of Orchesis, Maine West dance club. The girls were judged by the club officers: Carol Mielke '69, Dawn Dalin '69, Janet Fendius '71, and Miss Jan Richter, club sponsor.
Other teachers judging were Mrs. Irene Loebaka, Mrs. Joanne Brown, Miss Mildred Shemlock, and Mrs. Joan Plock.
The newly chosen members received carnations to wear the following Tuesday.
Clinics were held the week before tryouts to teach the tryout dance routine to the music of "A Summer's Place."

Those who tried out were judged on poise, appearance, grace, and how well the dance was done.
Plans for the future include a Christmas party for which the members will be making up their own routines and a taffy apple and bake sale to raise money.
"The girls will be mainly working on our annual spring program," commented Jan Fendius, secretary. The club is considering opening the show to all students if the new theater, soon to be finished, can be obtained.
The club meets every Wednesday to learn modern dance techniques.
