The 1968 cross country season ended on a high note for the Warriors as they captured fourth place in the Maine East District and sent their ace runner, Bob Glitz, to the State meet.
At the district meet our harriers faced some of the toughest teams in the state as Evanston, New Trier East, and Maine East all placed ahead of West's team.
Representing Maine West on the district level were Bob Glitz, Gary Wolf, Steve Johnson, Gerry Kranick, and Marc Forkins. The best individual effort by a Maine runner was the fourth spot captured by Glitz.

Fourth place was enough to send Bob to the state meet held on November second. Bob took forty‑eighth out of over 200 in the big meet at Champaign as York took the state title.
In the Libertyville Invitational which took place just before the district meet the runners defeated last year's state champs, Arlington, as they swept away all competition to take a first place trophy.
This has been an outstanding season for Maine West. Some of the highlights were first place in the Center meet as we defeated 25 other schools, Conference champions on both the varsity and freshman levels, and a first place runner in every one of the dual meets to extend our string past 30 meets in this department. Fourth place in the district and the victory at Libertyville deserve recognition also.
