Warrior of the West

"The incident that really is responsible for my personality is that my birthday is on Valentine's Day," declared Gary Wolf '69, a member of this year's cross country team. He continued to say, "I have an easy‑going, love life attitude. Many people take life too seriously."

Gary has participated on the cross country and track teams since his freshman year. As for other sports, Gary says, "I would gladly participate in a greater variety of sports, but I seem best equipped for the track and cross country teams."

Bob Glitz '69, also a member of this year's cross country team, says, "Gary is one of the most devoted runners on the team." Gary feels strongly on the point of participating in sports instead of running off to a job after school."

Gary commented, "Maine West provides us with the opportunity to become active in sports, and the boys should take advantage of it while it still is possible for them to do so."

On October 26 the cross country team competed in District and came in fourth place. Gary remarked, "Considering it was the toughest district, fourth place is not bad at all for Maine West."

As for Maine West's cross country teams, luck was with them this year. Events really went great. At their first meet, the Center Meet, held during the second week of school, Maine West came in first in cross country, competing against 23 schools at Libertyville, this time beating the defending state champs. At a conference meet, on October 18, Maine West again made first place.

Gary's senior year of cross country has been very successful. He hopes the luck will continue for the track team season.
