This month marks the beginning of the winter sports season. The sports included are gymnastics, swimming, basketball, and wrestling.
Gymnastics
"We're not quite there yet, but if we can get ourselves organized quickly and avoid any serious injuries, we should have a good season." This was the optimistic outlook that head Coach Sid Drain has for his 1968‑69 gymnastics team.
This year's returning lettermen include Rich Didier '69, Jim Janssens '69, Bob Moehling '69, Mark Forkins '69, Bob Suda '69, Bill Johnson '69, and Al Van Ornum '69.
The head coach stated, "The boys are working hard and have a good attitude, and with more returning lettermen we'll have a better season than last year."
Swimming
The Warrior swim team will open their season with a dual meet against Proviso West on November 27. In his second year as head coach, Mr. Pete Andersen thinks that this year's swim team lacks the depth that it needs.
The Warriors have nine returning lettermen. They include Jim Lillquist '69, Ted Loska '69, Ron Strand '69, Bruce Vosburgh '69, Bill Hall '70, Tom Peterson '70, Skip Parent '71, Terry Stoner '69, and Scott Gyssler '71.
Coach Andersen feels that the toughest teams will be last year's champs, Deerfield, New Trier West, and Niles North, in that order. The coach had no predictions for this year, but he concluded, "I will be happy if we break even, but we could have another season like we had last year when we had a record of 3‑7."

Basketball
"If we do well defensively and with our rebounding under the boards, we could have a good season." That is the point that basketball Coach Gaston Freeman will emphasize this year as he pilots the Warriors through another season.
The West netmen only have three returning lettermen this year. They are Randy Hann '69, George Horn '69, and Kim Freeman '69.
The head coach added, "I feel I have a bunch of boys who like to play basketball. Our offense is not that important; and if we can control the boards, then we should do well."
Coach Freeman noted that the toughest teams will probably be Maine South and New Trier West while Wheeling may be one of the best teams in the area this year.
Wrestling
Coach Dick Carlini and his varsity wrestling team will make their debut on November 27 when they travel to Prospect. Coach Carlini stated that there will be a lot of openings this year because there are only four lettermen returning. They are Tom Mietus '69, Jim Morrison '69, Jim Webster '69, and Steve Waecker '69.
The head coach feels that his lettermen are "all solid kids and good wrestlers. There is no one tough team. Because our conference is so well balanced, all of them will be tough to beat."
