Dads' Club Award Night Honors Maine Athletes

Letters and numerals were awarded to outstanding members of Maine West's football and cross country teams Tuesday, November 19. The Dads' Club sponsored its annual awards night at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium.

Varsity football payers meeting the requirements of 16 quarters of play were given letters. New lettermen are Dave Atkinson, Howie Baer, Paul Bartholomae, Robert Biggott, Dave Boesche, Jim Doherty, Edward Haag, Mark Henkes, Andy Johnson, Joe Jung, Mike Maloney, Bill O'Neill, Larry Petkus, Larry Portman, Bill Tiliman, Allen Vaccarello, Steve Waecker, and Kevin Weller.

Returning lettermen are Gene Behrens, Tom Buttner, Gerry Kaminski, John Lovering, Tom Mietus, Jim Morrison, John Salerno, Rich Yetter, and David Zulawski (all conference and most valuable player).

The varsity cross country team saw these new lettermen: Ray Anderson, Luke Burchard, Al Crisafulli, Kent Drysch, Bruce Eiter, Mark Frasier, Scott Gyssler, Pat Jenkinson, Doug Keehn, Gerry Krainik, Dave Lashway, Steve Melling, and Bill Skibbe.

Returning lettermen are Dale Dreischarf, Marc Forkins, Bob Glitz (most valuable), Darrell Jonasson, Bob Lidinsky, John Plas, Al Shank, John Wallin, Gary Wolf, and Mike Wolf.

To earn letters, runners had to beat the opponent's fifth runner four times or place in district or conference meets.

Junior varsity letters for football were awarded to Howie Baer, Don Bauer, Mark Courtois, Jim Fisher, Ray Gleason, Ken Gutowski, Mark Henkes, John Herter, Bill Holm, Rich Holst, Greg Horn, and Mark Kuzich (most valuable).

Others were Jeff Nelson, Larry Petkus, Larry Portman, Bill Priester, Leo Romano, Lee Salato, Steve Sperling, Gary Utes, Steve Waecker, and Jan Zabinski.

Awards were also given to the sophomore and freshman football and cross country teams.
