First of all I would like to thank all of the fans who have attended the last four wrestling meets. I also would like to encourage all Maine West stud dents who have never seen a wrestling meet to attend one this year. The majority of the meets this year are at home so it should be easy for everyone to see at least one.
In our first home meet the Maine West wrestlers beat Morton West. At this meet the bleachers were pretty well filled, mostly with Morton students! The so called minor sports at Maine are ignored too much.
Swimming, wrestling, and gymnastics are always put below basketball. Why can't they be equal? Win or lose, the basketball team gets most of the publicity. Coach Freeman's boys are a good team; but I don't feel they are better than the gymnasts, swimmers, or wrestlers.

Last fall the football team was losing, and the cross country team was winning, but the football team received most of the attention. Why? All sports should get the same coverage, and maybe a little more for the winning teams at Maine.
Pep‑Club should let the kids know when the "minor" sports events are and maybe even try to have a pep bus to an event other than football or basketball. When a team is winning, the school should be aware of this; and the attendance will then take care of itself.
People like winners. But, win or lose, every athlete at Maine West is a winner. So I strongly urge every student to get out and support your teams, all your teams. West is best as long as we keep it that way!
