Wrestlers Chalk Up Two Victories

The Maine West varsity wrestling team had a very successful weekend last week as they defeated Glenbrook North 26‑21 on Friday and then on Saturday took first place in the Forest View Quadrangular. At 95 pounds Bruce Beam '71 opened the meet against Glenbrook with a 7‑4 loss. At 103 pounds Jim Webster '69 was edged out by his opponent 4‑2.

At 112 pounds and 120 pounds respectively Bill Beam '70 and Rick Fielden '69 got the Warriors on the winning side by defeating the opponents 5‑1. At 127 pounds Kevin Sherwood '69 was defeated 6‑1. Bruce Barringer '70 managed an 8‑4 victory at 133 pounds, but Bob Wolfgram '70 at 138 pounds was pinned.

At 145 pounds and 154 pounds respectively Steve Waecker '69 and Jim Morrison '69 pinned their men to give the lead to the Warriors. At 165 pounds Tom Mietus '69 had to settle for a 2‑2 tie with his opponent, but Maine West picked up another five points when Bill Tiliman '70 at 180 pounds pinned his man.

Dave Boesche was pinned by his opponent at heavyweight to end the meet with a score of 26‑21.

On Saturday the Warriors won the Forest View Quadrangular with 94 points to 82 points for runner‑up Forest View. The Warriors grabbed five first place finishes, three seconds, and three thirds.

Bruce Beam took a second by losing to Gerenstein of Elmwood Park in the championship finals. Jim Webster also finished second by losing to Mayer of New Trier 13‑0. Bill Beam took a third by beating Carver 4‑2 in an overtime.

Rick Fielden gave Maine West their first individual championship by beating Moore of Forest View 5‑4. In the 127 and 133 pound weight classes Maine West also took firsts as Kevin Sherwood beat Pirron of Forest View 4‑1, and Bruce Barringer defeated Gray of New Trier 2‑1,

Bob Wolfgram took second by losing to Sundblom of Forest View 5‑0. Maine got two more firsts as Steve Waecker beat Schiller of New Trier 10‑4, and Jim Morrison pinned Lundin of New Trier in 42 seconds.

Maine collected two third places when Tom Mietus got a forfeit, and Bill Tillman won 4‑0. The final score of the meet was Maine West, 94; Forest View, 82; New Trier, 76; and Elmwood Park, 59.
