MW Forensics Win
Trophies, Honors

The Maine Township Triangular Speech and Debate Tournament was held at Maine East on Saturday, January 25. Of the overall team point awards, Maine East took first place, Maine South won second place, and Maine West captured third place.

Representing West on the novice debate level were Chris Devoney '71 and Randy von Liski '70, affirmative; and Dave Congalton '71 and Kurt Klein '72, negative, who won the first place team award.

Mark Kaneen '71 and Cathy Clarke '71, affirmative, won the junior varsity affirmative team award. Also on the J.V. level, Mike Mlodoch '70 and Rich Janecek '70 won first and second speaker awards respectively.

Debating on the varsity level were Mary Jo Gigante '70 and Craig Dudczak '69, affirmative; and Mark Millonas '70 and Karen Gatsis '70, negative. Craig Dudezak and Chris Devoney won second place speaker awards on the varisty and novice levels respectively.

West's Readers' Theater group consisting of Rhonda Sundquist '69, Maureen O'Brien '69, Bonnie Bridwell '70, Jim Hoekstra '69, Chris Devoney '71, and Ned Peterson '71 took first place and added another victory to their record.

Maine West captured numerous awards in individual events. Second place awards were won by Rich Wilson '69, serious reading; Connie Grimes '69, oratorical declamation; Maureen O'Brien '69, verse reading; and Diane Clarke '69, after dinner speaking.

First place trophies were won by Sandy Salerno '71, original monologue; Debbie Loepere '71, after dinner speaking; and Diane Clarke, prose reading. Linda Naslund '70 took fourth place in prose reading, and Diane Glanke '69 won third place in extemporaneous speaking.

Mr. Douglas Blatt explained,, "Maine West contest speakers have shown determination and enthusiasm throughout the year. Saturday their determination and teamwork reached a peak and success was the reward."
