Laraine Acts as President of
Maine West Girls' Club

Presiding over Girls' Club this year is President Laraine Mesavage '69. Laraine runs the club's weekly meetings and takes charge of all the club's activities, which include: Girls' Choice Dance, the Senior‑Faculty Tea, Christmas stockings, and the Big Sister‑Little Sister Program, which originated this year.

Laraine confided that her biggest problem as president is "just keeping Girls' Club known throughout the school. Most girls don't realize that they are automatically members of Girls' Club when they come to Maine West."

When asked how this year's Girls' Choice would be different, Laraine replied, "We will try to revive the old tradition of the girls making corsages for their dates. We have a great group lined up, and I'm hoping the dance will be a big success. Like the posters say, it should be 'the greatest put on in Maine's history!'

She also added, "It's still not too late for girls to get a date for the dance if you haven't already."

Foods and clothing, gym, and government and democracy are the subjects that keep Laraine busy when she is not working on the club's activities. When asked whether her job as president interfered with her studies and other activities, Laraine said, "Not at all. It has been a great asset to me, and I am much more a part of school activities. Being president of an organization is a tremendous experience. My only regret is that more kids can't share it."

The advice that Laraine suggests for other students is "Don't always follow the crowd - try to grow up on your own. It's a big world out there! Most of all, try to develop your personality and have fun!"
