What we need at Maine West is greater apathy. All we hear about is that the students are not involved. Quite the contrary, the students are very involved.
Take the cafeteria, for instance. The students here are very involved in their cafeteria. They are involved with creating psychedelic floors with garbage, playing musical chairs, and numerous other intellectual activities.
To observe the spirited involvement of students during cafeteria fist fights is stimulating. Hundreds of students crowding around screaming for blood brings nostalgic memories when the sport was throwing Christians to the lions. It brings joy to the hearts of those who have been calling for support of our fighting Warriors.
Students are also wrapped up in the fascinating life of the study halls: reading comic books, throwing pennies, getting passes to the washroom (for some, the student smoking lounge), staring at the ceiling, and even studying for those who are extremely involved.

However, the ultimate involvement is found in the Student Council. While the individual student is involved only in minor activities, the Student Council can be involved in vital matters such as: food, ice, G.I. drives, food, Teacher Appreciation Day, food, sticking more stars on flags, collecting money, and food.
The students are extremely involved in their Council. Not only do they interrupt their busy schedules for two minutes every year to elect new members, but recently one‑third of them returned a survey sheet. Of these, an overwhelming 35 per cent were interested in improving the Council.
These are just a few examples of why we need more apathy at Maine West. The mental stimulation and spirited involvement are so exciting here that it is hard to get any sleep.
