Carla Battaglia, a 5'4" senior with dark hair and dark eyes, is this year's winner of the Betty Crocker Homemaker Award.
When offered the opportunity to prove her skill in home economics last December by taking a test, Carla accepted the challenge and received the highest score at Maine West.
Carla majored in home economics because she thinks it is the most interesting curriculum that Maine offers. She has taken courses in foods, psychology, and clothing but likes foods best. Why? "Because I love to eat!''

The test covered several areas of homemaking. Carla commented that she was amazed at the amount of detail that the test covered. In her years at West she has participated in Girls' Business Club and Home Economics Club.
Presently Carla is taking psychology for living and current affairs. She is also a member of the Office Occupations program, through which she works as a key punch operator. Her future plans may include college after she works for a while.
When asked if her home economics training would help her in the future, Carla replied, "Definitely! My mother always said that the best way to a man's heart is through his stomach ‑ experience can tell ‑ it sure helps!"
