Maine Clubs To Offer Various Opportunities

Need some excitement to help break up the monotony of midyear? Maybe one of these activities will interest you!

The Ski Club offers opportunities every week for those who like skiing. All that is necessary is to get a membership card. Alpine Valley and Wilmont are two of the club's favorite lodges.

"The weekend of February 14‑16," states Arlene Hegg '69, president of Ski Club, "we are offering a trip open to all members of the club. The club will go to Mt. Telemark Lodge in Cable, Wisconsin." Ski Club's last weekend trip was during Christmas vacation.

The Future Teachers of America (FTA), a new club this year, offers opportunities for students who are thinking of becoming teachers to enable them to learn more about the profession.

On January 22 the members were invited to Terrace School where they were given a complete tour of the school. Carolyn Toren '70, president of FTA, says, "It was a marvelous opportunity, which I found very interesting."

At present FTA is hoping to obtain permission from Mr. A. K. H. Cochrane to purchase a film which shows conditions under which teachers in the New York slums work.

The club also hopes to obtain a counselor to speak to them about the requirements for teaching. Carolyn adds, "Anyone who is interested in joining the club should see Miss Suzanne Lutz, the sponsor of the club.

Currently Orchesis is practicing for their annual show which will be held on May 2. The members of the club make their own routines for the show. The show will be held in the Little Theater. All interested students are invited to come and observe.

On February 22 Pep Club will sponsor the Northern Illinois Pep Club Convention at Maine West. Sue Winn '70, president of Pep Club declares, "All pep clubs in northern Illinois will be invited. Altogether there will be about 100 clubs participating, and we will exchange ideas.",
