On February 1, Maine West will be host to approximately 20 schools competing in individual speech events. But, according to Mr. Douglas Blatt, speech coach, "Maine can not have a good speech team without student support."
Maine's contest will run three rounds before lunch. Each student will do his activity before a different judge each round.
After lunch there will be an awards assembly, when the trophies and certificates will be given to those students receiving first or second place in each event. During the contest Thespian Society will sell donuts in the cafeteria.

A new event to be introduced here tomorrow will be children's prose reading. In this event the student will select a program of children's prose and read it as though he were speaking in front of children.
Also featured will be four schools competing in Readers' Theater. Maine's entry in this event is "The Bald Soprano," which took first place in competition in Normal, Illinois.
"It's a fun activity," remarked Mr. Blatt. "We have good potential and spirit in the club. Speech Club is a wonderful opportunity for students who enjoy competition and speaking in front of a group."
Students wishing to participate may choose such activities as original monologue, after dinner speaking, and oration.
