Varsity Debaters Tie For
Second Place

The Maine West Debate Team hosted a Debate Tournament here on February 8. Between 8:30 am, and 3 p.m., 26 schools went four rounds of debate.

In the varsity division of the Maine West team were Team A: Craig Dudczak '69 and Karen Gatsis '70; and Team B: Mary Jo Gigante '70 and Mark Millonas '70. They switched from affirmative to negative in the four rounds to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of both sides of the controversial issue.

Varsity division claimed a tie for second place between Evanston B team and New Trier East B team. First place went to Joliet West with 212 points.

In the junior varsity division were Mike Mlodoch '70 and Mark Kaneen '71 were the affirmative team. Representing Maine as the negative team were Dave Congalton '71 and Rich Janecek '70.

Jan Fritchse '72 and Diane Pistolis '72 alternated as the first affirmative speaker, with Chris DeVoney '71 acting as their partner. Jim Towers '72 and Kurt Kline '72, who represented West as negative debaters in the novice division, are said to be "two freshman debaters who are really moving along" according to Mr. Merle Marine, Debate coach.
