The Maine West athletic department started out their year with a bang, or should we say a blank? Maine's annual Sports Spectacular was scheduled for the fateful evening of September 5. This program, sponsored by the Dad's Club, was to consist of an intrasquad football game between each class and also a cross country exhibition between the sophomore and varsity games.

The program started fine, as the freshman squad fought vigorously through the first half. But alas! Before one could utter "Jack Robinson," the massive light poles had all gone dead.
