After participating in Student Council for four years I have come to the conclusion that Student Council is and never will become more than a service organization for the school. I have been able to compare the one house system to the two‑house system, and I have decided that neither of the two better Student Council.
I do have to state, however, that I do not believe that the work of Student Council is worthless or pointless. Planned social activities are needed for those who wish to attend. Taking that into consideration, Maine West has one of the most active councils that I know of.

To achieve this I do not feel it is necessary to follow the system we now have, electing representatives to Upper House and Lower House.
I propose the idea of a volunteer council. At the end of each school year students who wish to work on Student Council may volunteer. I admit this would create a problem for homeroom representation. Personally, I don't think that reporting to a homeroom about the activities of Council accomplishes much. If the majority of students feel that reporting to homerooms helps communications, then the volunteers could be assigned to a homeroom. If not enough students volunteer for each to represent one homeroom, then they could be given extra homerooms to represent. The officers of Student Council should still be elected at large with the same qualifications.
