Diamondmen Look For Promising Year

With nine returning lettermen and a lot of competition for the positions on the baseball team, this year looks to be another promising year for Coach Al Carstens. The outfield is filled with returning lettermen Jim Kulik, Joe Jung, and Doug Keehn, all of whom are experienced, quick, and able seniors. There are other players competing to knock these boys out of their positions.

Other returning lettermen are catcher Keith Moranz '71, third baseman Mike Maloney '70, shortstop Jim Hanselmann '71, and first baseman and pitcher Ken Dopp '70. The team also has three returning lettermen who are outstanding pitchers. They are Dopp, Bert Gaston '70, and Bill Olsen '70.

Besides all of these returning lettermen the team has a lot of depth. The weather has hampered their spring practice greatly, and their first game was "snowed‑out."

Their next attempt to beat the weather and play baseball was Tuesday, April 7. It was against Hersey at Hersey. The baseball team has 19 games in the next nine weeks which is an average of two games a week, and at many times the schedule gets much tighter than that.

Last year the baseball team had a little better than a .500 ball club. They lost many close games, and with their experience this year their record should be as good as last year's if not better.
