Mike Maloney '70, who has just about nailed down a third base job was quoted on several questions.
He said, "Maine West has a good chance to take the conference, but Glenbrook South can be tough and so can Niles West. He went on to say that Coach Al Carstens is probably the best coach for baseball in the state.
Mike said, "You dislike him during the season because he works you so much, but you end up liking him because you realize it's for your own good."
He also stated, "Mr. Carstens knows how to get 100 per cent out of everyone, and not every coach can do that." Mike believes that Maine has a quick team and cited Doug Keehn '70 as a prime example. Mike said, "Doug is the slowest of our outfielders yet he is one of the fastest members of the team."

He went on to say that Bert Gastorf '70, Ken Dopp '70, and Bill Olsen '70 would make up the three starters for the Warriors. Meanwhile he gave two lefthanders a chance at relief work; they are Bill Besenhofer '70 and Dave Nelson '71. In the battle for second base Mike said that Dan Moss '71 should be the starter.
Mike feels that the starting infield will include Keith Moranz '71 at catcher along with Ken Dopp holding down the first base position when he's not pitching. Mike also stated, "Jim Kulik '70, Joe Jung '70, and Doug Keehn will hold down the outfield positions."
