Trackmen Win Conference,
Spring Season Hopes High

After a few losses because of questionable referee decisions, the Warrior track team proved itself once again by winning the Central Suburban Conference meet a few weeks ago. Included among the defeated teams were the Maine South Hawks who had previously beaten the Warriors because of decisions by Maine South referees.

An understandable let‑down period then proceeded to hit the cindermen after their conference championship the week before. This let‑down did not arrive soon enough for the Wheeling track team, though, as the Warriors pounced on them 75‑25 at a home meet held at Maine East.

The cindermen then went to a special invitational held at Evanston, home of the Wildkits. Here, at Evanston, an obvious slack was noted by everyone on

the track team and head Coach Joe Jobst as the Warriors placed ninth out of 12 teams that participated. The slack in anxiety was understandable, though, as the previous months had been full of tough meets with an even tougher schedule.

The poor showing was not taken too seriously by the Central Suburban champs, though, and they closed out the indoor season with a fifth place finish at the Blue Demon Relays where 12 teams participated including four from our conference.

Consequently, a lot of teams will be shooting to beat the conference champions in the upcoming outdoor season, but most of them will be disappointed.
