WMTH To Present First Senior
Super Rock Day

For the first time the WMTH staff members of the three Maine Township High Schools will present "Senior Super Rock Day." After a bit of rescheduling, the date has been set for tomorrow, April 25, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

From 9 a.m. to 12 noon WMTH 88.5 FM, will let the students call in for requests, then the 110 record countdown will begin at noon. Beginning with the freshman year, the top 25 songs from all four years will be played with two or three commercials between every 25 songs. This will be followed by the top 10 songs from all four years combined, making a total of 110 records that will be played.

How did the idea of "Senior Rock Day" begin? All one has to do is take a visit to R‑203 and talk to seniors Emil Eck, Don Hammer, and Mark Henkes who set up the project.

"We discussed the idea back in January when we wanted to present a long disc jockey show," said Don. "We thought it would be a great idea if we could give the seniors a chance to listen to the best songs during their high school years.

"Thanks to Steve Grewe '70, who supplied us with every WLS Silver Dollar Survey sheet since August of 1966, we used a ballot system and let the seniors from all three schools vote for the songs themselves."

The original plan called for a dance at Maine West in which all seniors would be invited, but a lack of funds by Maine South and Maine East made this impossible. "Although the two schools thought it was a great idea, we had trouble getting their cooperation," said Don.

Some seniors seem to think that there is a general lack of interest in the idea and that there is too much apathy among the students to really make it a success, but Mark seems to think otherwise. "The results of the survey show that the students voted the way they felt and that the majority of the students turned in their ballots."
