Draft Counseling Has Advantages
for Men

In our last issue the Westerner explored some of the educational opportunities available in the military. As a sequel to that article, we now direct our attention to those students who do not wish to enter the military.

Many young men reaching the age of 18 have to decide whether or not they should comply with the draft. For moral reasons or' other factors they may feel they should not serve, but they see no choice except to serve or go to jail.

If you are faced with this problem now or a few years from now, you should not ignore the possibilities of draft counseling. There are many draft counseling services in the Chicago area which would be more than willing to assist you personally in dealing with the draft.

Many students are totally unaware of their rights under our present draft laws. They may think deferments are only for students and the disabled. They do not realize that they may be eligible for deferments as hardship cases or sole support of their families, for example.

There is nothing the least bit shady or illegal about draft counseling. Many counselors are lawyers, and draft counseling columns have even been regular features of some Chicago newspapers. Therefore, students are urged to take advantage of draft counseling services. They are listed in the Chicago telephone book.
